My name is Gerard Williams, and I am a freelance American Sign Language interpreter in the DC
area. I am currently serving as Vice President for the Potomac Chapter
(MD/DC) of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Our organization
is a membership based non profit which is entirely volunteer run.
We host an annual conference in the Maryland/DC area, and last year we
moved to using an online conference program via a mobile compatible
website (
www.pcrid.net/2011). This year we are planning to do an opt
out program which will include a printed program component, mobile
website, and posters on site in our conference location. It occured to
me that this may be a great opportunity for a student in graphic
design to get real world hands on experience and some wonderful
material for their portfolio, while helping out our organization at a
tough time in our balance sheet. We may be able to offer a stipend but
cannot afford to pay professional design rates. Our conference will be
held the second week of November this year (11/9-11/11).
Do you know of any students in your department studying graphic design
who would be interested in an opportunity like this? I would be happy
to discuss this with you in more detail if that would be helpful. Let
me know and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!
