Hi guys

I hope you are well and enjoying 2016!

I have a question for you if software is your second (or third!) career...  Would you be willing to chat to someone who is moving to working as a developer after 10 years in the finance industry and give them the benefit of your experience?

I’ve recently heard from someone with a degree in Economics, and a Masters in Management and Regulation of Risk who has decided to change careers from finance to software development. They’ve found the time they have spent developing risk management software so rewarding that they are re-training and are now part of the way through a Masters degree in Computer Science, but:

“Since I am taking less traditional route into developer career I am still trying to figure out various options. I am wondering if you are aware of any opportunities to get in touch with someone who went through similar experience and open to providing an insight into their journey.”

We wouldn’t necessarily be expecting the commitment of an ongoing mentorship. Initially an email or a phone conversation from someone who has been there themselves, to talk through the dilemmas facing someone in this situation would be a huge help.

If you have moved to development from a career in another industry and would be happy to share your experiences with our member, please contact me directly and I’ll be happy to put you in touch.

Thanks so much for reading this, and for any help you can give.

Best wishes

Maggie

Hey Maggie,

Im running an event in a few weeks they might be interested to attend. They could chat to the panelist as all 4 of them made a change in their career.

Cheers
Sam

Hi Maggie,

If you are still looking for people for the career-change advice, I am happy to be contacted: charles....@lycos.com or 02084403030.

It was a long time ago -- I did a degree in Electronics, 4 years of hardware design, then moved into programming fairly easily just by teaching myself to program and then getting assigned to a programming project at work (Plessey), where we did both hardware and software.  That was in 1982!
