Call for help/mentors for Devoxx4Kids

Good morning mentors,

I hope everyone is well - I know it’s been quiet recently and we’ve not organised any Meet a Mentor events recently, but we are starting to think about the new academic year and will be in touch on this ASAP. This is a quick call for help on a slightly related area, I really hope some of you are able to help out. Please have a read through and do let me know.

Many of you may have heard about the Devoxx conference, but may not be aware of Devoxx4kids. It is an initiative that has spun out of Devoxx focussing on exposing kids aged 10-16 to programming & technology more generally. There’s a strong emphasis on robotics, fun and generally cool stuff. You can see videos of recent events at http://www.devoxx4kids.org/ Devoxx4Kids has ran many times across the world, but the first ever UK event is running in June, hoping to host upwards of 60 kids. We are proud to say that we at the LJC are assisting with some of the administration and organisation to help the event run smoothly.

The event strongly taps into our values here at RecWorks too, around Talent Development and Talent Mentoring, so we are working with the organisers to use our time and resources to make sure we get enough volunteers to make the event a great success for the kids. With that in mind I’d like to put a call out for volunteers for the event. Dan Hardiker is one of the guys behind the event. He loves getting involved and commented: “It’s an incredibly rewarding thing to be a part of kids being presented with a problem and see them have the “wow - I made it do that” experience.”

The event is running on Saturday 14th June just up the road from the office at Shoreditch Works Village Hall it starts at 9:30am and will be finished at 4pm.

Just a quick follow up on this - we had a few mentors come forward but definitely still need more, so if anyone else is able to come forward (or help get this out to your friends/colleagues) I’d really appreciate it.
