Hi all,

I've just got back from presenting a short career guidance-type talk at King's College London (KCL) University, and wanted to let everyone know that not only was it a lot of fun, but I believe it could a very beneficial step towards breaking down some of the current barriers between academia and industry.

I chatted to Steffen, a lecturer at KCL, before the talk, and learned that many people who have spoke in the weeks before me (Martijn, and many others on this list) have made a real difference in getting students to think more in-depth about their careers, which is surely a great thing.

Kudos also to Barry and the entire RecWorks crew for kick-starting this, and I would definitely recommend others get involved! If you're interested, I've put my slides up on slideshare:

I've also tweeted about this as well:

If anyone has any questions then feel free to get in touch (or give Barry at RecWorks a shout :-) ).

Best wishes,

Daniel

I spoke at UCL the other week on clean code (not a GDC/LJC thing, a work thing), and one of the nicest things was when chatting to the students afterwards someone said it was refreshing to see someone so passionate and exciting about programming after 15 years of experience as most people they'd met were boring.

It's good to know that just chatting to a bunch of people can have a positive impact on them :)

Nice one Daniel! I did that talk a few weeks back (on the subject of collaboractive programming techniques such as pair programming and coding dojos) and found it very rewarding too.

I will post my slides some time soon.
