Short talks at Kings

Hi guys,

Quick question, is anyone in this group open to giving a short talk at Kings on a Thursday morning. (Any Thursday starting from next week).

I met with a few academics earlier this week and we’re looking at other ways to help more students to consider their careers and get more involved in the GDC and other tech communities. One thing that has been recommended is if we could get some people to go into universities for a short talk (5-15 minutes) about what motivated them to go into the industry and what the job/industry is like from their perspective. You could talk about tech as well if you like e.g. what the most important significant techs are at the moment.

Martijn Verburg did it this week and had a bit of fun with the students. 

Is there anyone on this list that would be available and happy to do this? If so please let me know (either directly or through the list) which dates you could do it and I (or one of the RecWorks crew) will sort it for you.

Sorry for the delay here - in all honesty it’s up to you to decide what to speak about. 

Martijn talked about why it was cool to be a developer, Chris O’Dell is going to be speaking about a day in the life of a developer, so quite where you go with it is up to you, but like a MaM event it should start with the students in mind. 

We’re trying to bridge the gap between where they are now and what they’ll be doing once they graduate, so you could speak about how you got started, why you love programming, what a developer does, a certain technology etc. 

I’ll introduce you to Steffen at Kings and you can discuss this directly with him too as he may have some further ideas.
