Hello,
I am trying to include google health in our android app[itriage] to
get let the users access their phr.
I am new to google gdata code and am wondering what would be a good
place to learn how to authenticate a user to access their google
health record.
Thank you.

Achie,
In general the best user experience would be to take advantage of the AccountManager on Android:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/accounts/AccountManager.html
There is an example usage of it that I've written for Picasa Web Albums Data API:
http://gdata-java-client.googlecode.com/svn/tags/2.2.1-alpha/sample/picasa/picasa-atom-android-sample/instructions.html
Also demonstrated in that sample is OAuth. The primary use case for it is if you want to support older versions of the Android SDK like 1.5 and 1.6 that
currently represent about 55% of the Android market
.
