Dear all,

I just uploaded a few sequences that I want to publish via ICE. The manual states in the admin section that this has to be done for all sequences individually.
But how?

I'm the first member of my work group to use ICE, so I don't know who the admin should be. I didn't see any admin link and don't know how to become an admin.

Or is there any way to publish sequenes without being admin?

Cheers,
Jara

There is an admin option that allows for enabling regular users of the ICE instance to make their entries publicly available. The person who installed the ICE instance will have admin privileges or know who does.

Also, you can add permissions to entries in bulk by adding them to a folder, setting the permissions on that folder and select "propagate to the entries"

Now I have the feeling that I did not use the standard way. I created an ACS account and did everything in the browser (https://acs-registry.jbei.org/). So there is no ICE anywhere installed on my PC or another one of my working group. I uploaded the sequences via this website and that worked out fine.

I tried to put the sequences into a personal folder, which failed without generating an error message (instead only one old entry entry is found in the folder: ACS_000026 ) That might be a different bug. (Or is it related to my status?)
I still tried to create a folder and change the permissions. I selected "Remote Account" and the "JBEI Public Registry". But than I should have entered "Enter remote user Email" - which I don't know what or who it is. I tried entering my own account, but that did not work.

Maybe I'm in that weird state that there should be an admin, but there isn't and for some reason I still was able to upload sequences? Can I somehow become admin?

The acs registry is for acs publications. I think the registry you want is public-registry.jbei.org. You should be able to make your entries public there without admin privileges

Dear Hector,

thank you for your patience and advise so far. I did register at the public registry now and I uploaded the sequences.

https://public-registry.jbei.org/folders/personal

Unfortunately, I have the same problems when trying to handle the sequences.

0) The sequences are "pending", whatever that means. (and they were uploaded twice, once including and once excluding the sequence file. Although I clicked "submit" only once, but that is a different problem, which doesn't bother me too much)
1) I can't add sequences to a new folder, only one random old DNA sequence is displayed there. This time it is JPUB_000052.
2) I can't change the folder properties to be public. When opening a personal folder and clicking on "share", I can choose "remote account" and "jbei registry". However, I still have to enter an "remote user email" which I don't know what it should be and mine does not work.

It seems like me being the only one having those problems, so maybe there is something fundamentally wrong with my browser settings? --> can you recommend any browser/settings that are known to work? (I use Firefox, adblocker and privacy badger, cookies are allowed)

Parts that are uploaded using bulk upload have to be approved and are therefore in the pending state. I have approved your upload so it should not be "pending" any longer and you will be able to add then to a folder. Once added to the folder, click on the "Share" link near the folder name. In the popup, click on the "Propagate permissions to contained parts" check box and then click on "Public Access". This will make your parts public

Ok, thanks. I transferred the sequences to a personal folder.

After clicking the Share button and checking "Propagate permissions to contained parts", however, I still can't see the "public access" button. I attached a screenshot to show you the options available.

Ok, thank you, I could see the toggle now and switched it.

It is funny though, that I had to upload the sequences via https://public-registry.jbei.org/web/7 and can only see them here https://acs-registry.jbei.org/web/2/folder/311 (folder JBEI Public Registry, which I cannot see at here https://public-registry.jbei.org/web/7). But I'm glad that they are online now.

Cheers and thank you for your help,
Jara

Hi, Julia,

It is fixed now and you should be able to set the folder to public.

Can you provide more details about the reset password issue? When you reset it what happens? You should receive an email with a temporary password (this can take a couple of minutes).

Thanks,
Hector.

Hello Hector,
I am in the same working group than Jara and also wanted to submitt something to ACS Synthetic Biologie. I have uploaded the sequences and already created the personal folder, but somehow I am facing the same bug as my collegue (that is I am missing the toggle switch to make it public). Can this be fixed?

(also I have a minor bug, that keeps me from logging in or resetting my password from time to time, which is annoying, as I cannot always access my account. I thought I might have remembered the password wrong, but I already changed it twice, and I am pretty sure that it is korrekt. And I cannot reset it anyway.)

Greetings,
Julia
