Hi Roger and others,

Just wondering how the new website is coming along and particularly the dot. I would love to start spreading the dot on facebook and Twitter! Could you give us a short update on the process? Any help needed?

Our Facebook page is doing quite well, considering the modest amount of time invested in it. I like doing it, too. One thing I could really use: tips for nice posts on Facebook. So if any of you know some relevant articles, papers, blog posts, cartoons, videos and what have you, please send me a link in a reply to this message. That would help me in regularly posting something nice on our page, which is getting a fair bit of attention and is growing steadily.

Thanks!
Chiel

Hi Chiel and all,

I wish I could report positive progress, but there is no change on the website. As I may have already explained, Iit is not something I can add to my schedule, so it needs someone else with skill and the time to make some mods that would allow dynamic material to automatically be added or updated, and to operate as the website manager to make the new website grow and prosper. I manage the original one, and it is healthy -- but not very appealing to modern web consumers. But it is the essential core of the GCP, where data are archived and automatically processed, and where the formal analyses are presented. All that, plus the other things I personally like doing in the GCP context, are what I do. So, when someone comes along to make the new website not only attractive but a true complement to the original, I will be very happy. It is a genuinely nice, well designed website, and it only needs content.

BTW, the GCP website (original) is down at this time because New Jersey and Princeton in particular has no power.

Roger

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the clarification. I was under the assumption that there was someone working on the transfer of the dot and the current website to the new one. I would like to help make the transition, though I lack technical know how if it comes to programming dynamical stuff. I could transfer all the articles for example and depending on the CMS used I could probably do a lot more. Getting the dot to function is probably beyond me.

But there might be another way to get this done. We could set up a crowdfunding project. It wouldn't be that expensive (I guess...) to have the technical stuff set up by a professional and then continue by ourselves. I think the GCP has plenty of (potential) goodwill.

Questions:
- Do you think this might be a good idea?
- What would be needed (specifically) to get the new website up and running?
- What is your estimate of the costs?

To be clear: I want to get this website in the air and the dot back on the web and am willing to do what I can (learn). I could also set up the crowdfunding through one of the platforms created for this. I just need some help to get started.

And others in this group are free to join in!

Regards,
Chiel
