anyone seen this "failed precondition" error before from a dsub run?

Failed precondition (HTTP 400): Execution failed: generic::failed_precondition: while running "ssh": unexpected exit status 128 was not ignored

we're using this: google.genomics.v2alpha1.PipelinesV2Alpha1.RunPipeline

and this error just started today... anyone know if something changed within the last couple of days?  we haven't been able to get any deeper, more useful information yet...  but we're still digging

should we try switching over to v2beta as a matter of course?  or should that not be the issue?
