<LAUNCHED> GCP Variant Transforms Python 3 Migration

We’re excited to announce that GCP Variant Transforms OSS tool has been migrated to Python 3 in the v0.10.0 release.

Dataflow, on which Variant Transforms relies, will end their support for Python 2 on October 7th. To ensure Python 3 compatibility, we have also replaced PyVCF with PySam, which has yielded a side benefit of a modest performance improvement. Our internal benchmark testing shows a 50% decrease in resource consumption for medium datasets and a 70% reduction for large datasets with sizable sample data.

Please upgrade pipelines using Variant Transforms to the latest version to avoid compatibility problems. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to post an issue to the git repository or email your question gcp-life-sci...@googlegroups.com.
