We are excited to announce the release of Variant Transforms v0.9.0. This release brings many important updates, such as:
  • Thanks to BigQuery integer range partitioning, query costs are now up to two hundred times lower, especially for queries that span a short genomic region.
  • Users can store a copy of their VCF data optimized for sample lookup queries. Without this feature, sample lookup queries will process the entire table.
  • Users can choose to store their variants using 0-based or 1-based coordinates, making our BigQuery tables compatible with a wider range of tools.
For more details please refer to our release notes.

These cost-saving improvements have already been applied to our publicly hosted gnomAD tables. We hope that with these changes, even more researchers will adopt Variant Transforms to gain new insights and develop more effective treatments for diseases with genetic components.

Please let us know if you have any suggestions to further improve Variant Transforms.

Thank you!
