Hello,
I bought a Canon mx922 and set it up with Google Cloud Printing and I'm able to print to it from the cloud but I can not choose color or black and white. It seems like the print preview is always black and white.
I removed all extensions and plug in and reinstalled Chrome and also re-registered the printer but no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Can you please find printer id from https://www.google.com/cloudprint/#printers of that printer?

I took a look at your printer's capabilities in our database, it seems your printer is reporting to Google Cloud Print that it doesn't support color printing, because of this we only allow black and white printing. This seems to be an issue with printer firmware. Is there a firmware update that is available?

Hi Robert thank for taking the time to check. The mx922 has the latest firmware. Although it shows the black and white preview it will print either black and white or color at its own will. Most of the time it prints color. I tried to deactivate and reactivate but no luck. Maybe the cloud doesn't work well with the mx922? Appreciate your time and look forward to your reply.

Robert,

Is it possible to look at the database for the features for my Canon printer.  It is  Canon MG8200 series_95D96A.
I have never been able to get it to print monochrome--I get no option to specify whether to print in color or black & white.  I would prefer black & white most of the time.

Which brings up the question of how printers get into your database and who supplies the features that a particular printer supports.  Directly printing from a PC,
I have all kinds of options  (color or b&w).  But printing from my Samsung Chromebook 303C, I get no options.

And I spent a long time working with all sorts of Google folks to figure out why I don't have this option and no one could help.  Maybe finding out what is in the database for my printer will do the trick.

Thanks much.

How do I resolve this issue? Does Google talk to Canon? If not what can I do?

Canon decided not to provide any color options for printers that only printed in one mode. We've asked Canon to provide Color options, even when the printer only supports one color mode. My guess is they are using the same capabilities file for all of their printers and that is why you don't get any options for Color / BW.

Canon will be onsite in 2 weeks and we'll make sure we push them on this.

Thank you. My MX922 does give me the option to print in black and white or color when I print locally to it but not on the cloud. Maybe it can be resolved hopefully after your meeting....I just love Google cloud and hope for the best.
Thank you

Yes please!  Push hard!  If you need to have a disgruntled customer talk to them, I'm willing.  Anything I can do to get this obvious oversite corrected, I will do.  Thanks again.

mx472, same problem... I don't want to buy all that color ink.. and don't need it 99% of the time.  I've spent an hour trying to figure out how to print monochrome, which works easily from a window's pc, but no luck!!!

Hi all that are following this thread,

I can't seem to get a straight answer out of any Google support people or find anyone there that will follow through on getting this resolved.

My original post tried to get "Robert' to look in Google's support database for my printer to see what features were/were not supported.  His original note said that the person 'Robert' was responding to couldn't print in color because the info in the Google database about his printer said it didn't support color.  Then he said it sounded like a printer firmware problem.  How would updating firmware on a printer change what is in the Google support DB???  And if a bunch of us can only print in color, then it is known that our printers support color, so B&W should then be a viable option in the Google DB.  How do we get that to happen???

Then 'Kelly' responded to say that Canon would be on site and she would push them on this issue.  Since then, silence from 'Kelly.'

Obviously, a) Google doesn't follow through on important issues, b) no one there understands customer service or issue resolution, and c) we ain't never gonna get this one fixed.  <sigh>

I just got a MX472 and it has the same problem.  So as others has suggested Canon probably is using the same B&W only capabilities file for all of their printers.

I updated the firmware and it didn't fixed this.  Maybe I need to unregister and register the cloud printer again.

My old MX350 which I set up as a classic printer for cloud print show a color/b&w option.

I'm having the same problem with an MG7120. (Canon MG7100 series_80104D) with printer id: 235fdd2f-63ed-3532-d0cc-f941809c1bab (in case Kelly is able to look).

I can only print in B&W and preview always shows B&W. Local print works fine. Very frustrating.

Perhaps it is Canon that we should be directing our attention toward? In either case. I'd like to see some response from Google if possible.

Good luck....I've been having this problem for many months and no resolution. It's just about selling the product and not the support. Google did try to go to Samsung if you read the threads but it died there and not sure what happened after. Obviously bottom line is no one cares. Sorry to say it as it is.

Actually that isn't obvious (to me anyway). Any number of reasonable things could have occurred. Kelly could have taken an extended leave, Canon might have agreed to supply the additional color profile but it could have been scheduled to occur later, Canon might have postponed the meeting Kelly referred to, Kelly might have forgotten to come back and look at the thread. Who knows? I'm just as frustrated as anyone else but I don't think its useful to say they don't care. I think it would be accurate to say they don't monitor these threads as much as we would like or that they would be better off to have a more formal support process.

I just bought a Canon MX922 specifically because I use a Chromebook for personal and business needs. I unboxed and set it up only to find that I can't print in color from my Chromebook? I can't describe my frustration. How is this even an issue? It is marketed as a "Google Cloud Print" capable machine.

Unless I'm missing something here, I will be sending back this printer (no easy task) and quite frankly I am reconsidering my entire shift towards Google's devices and systems for my personal and business use.

If anyone at Google is listening, I'd love an explanation or at least a commitment to pursuing this issue. My Amazon reviews will go up in a minute.

My MX472 shows a B&W print preview but prints in color. My understanding is that this is a Canon problem. Their Cloud Print profile is flawed.

Does anyone know if this is an issue with other printer brands? Do other brands allow you to select B&W or color?

Hi Jublaine,

As you have seen in this thread, your frustration is understandable.  But the problem is not the printer or Canon.  It is Google.

You have a color-enabled printer that won't print in color.  I have a printer that won't print in Black & White--at least not through the Cloud Print interface.  But no one at Google seems to monitor these threads.  And direct appeals to them don't solicit any response or attempt to fix these (and myriad other) issues.

The problem here is a company that wants your business but doesn't understand the responsibilities they have taken on to be in business. <sigh>

Hi,
Same problem here.
My Canon MG6450 is not printing in black and white. There is no option for that.
This is most unfortunate and I will probably not be able to use this driver.

Good luck I'm removing myself from thus tread.

Are you all aware of Google's formal bug report/issue web page?
The search term: "cloud print color" currently yields 15 hits of which the 2 most recent look fairly relevant to this thread.
If none of the existing reports seem to reflect the concerns expressed in this thread there is always the New issue button .

I HAVE THE SOLUTION:  (at least for Brother users)  If you go to the print dialogue box.  Change printers back to google cloud printers (click destination printers) go to Google Could Print.  All of the options are there.  :)
