I'm unable to successfully register my extension with GCM. As per the doc, I've used my Project Number as the Sender ID, I've set Google Cloud Messaging for Android and I'm running a dev build of Chrome for OS X.

Yet chrome.runtime.lastError is always set to "Unknown error" in the callback passed to chrome.gcm.register() (see shell extension here). Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

As you know,  GCM in Chrome (v2) is still in test stage. We have had an issue with recent Canary/Dev (M36) build of Chrome (starting Thursday last week), which you likely are observing. We expect GCM to function again in Canary/Dev builds by EOD Tuesday...

Meanwhile, the Chrome Beta build (M35 beta) should be functioning as expected. The beta version of Chrome can be downloaded here. Obviously, the stable release (M34) does not yet have GCM API.

Sorry for inconvenience, while I certainly hope we won't have any outages of GCM, we might still have issues with certain Canary/Dev builds, they are less stable and this is why we have them...

Should work now on all versions of beta, Canary and Dev except 36.0.1955.* and 36.0.1956.*

If it doesn't, could you please open chrome://gcm-internals, and see if "GCM Enabled State" says "ALWAYS_ENABLED". If not, try to delete your signed-in profile (Settings->Users->Current->Delete) and re-create it again. See if it works after that.

Thanks!
Dmitry

I've rolled back to OS X Version 35.0.1916.69 beta but I'm still getting "Unknown error" when attempting to register with both my shell extension and a version of Google's gcm-notifications sample app that I uploaded.

I'll sit tight and try again with the builds from EOD Tuesday as you suggest.

All is working now with both Version 36.0.1964.2 dev and Version 36.0.1963.0 canary. Many thanks.
