Hello,

I am trying to develop a proof of concept for notifications within Chrome and I am unsure what the best way to go about testing notifications before publishing or before needing to use them in a live application is. I had published a test app to serve as my proof of concept but it has since been removed from the Chrome Web Store. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris

Are you just testing the notifications API or are you thinking of using GCM to invoke the notification?

Hi, Chris, Chee,

You can luckily play with both at once, using a GitHub sample we prepared for that purpose. Please check out https://github.com/GoogleChrome/chrome-app-samples/tree/master/gcm-notifications.

To make a distinction, notifications are used to show information to the user and API reference is available here: https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/notifications. (This group is not centered on the topic of notifications, it just so happens that messaging and notifications can be commonly used together)

GCM is a part responsible for messaging from the server to the client app. API reference is available here: https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/gcm, Documentation here: https://developer.chrome.com/apps/cloudMessagingV2.

You don't have to publish the application to the store to play with it, you simply need to load it in chrome://extensions once you switch to developer mode.

Regards.
Filip
