Subject: Hijab Party Outline

Salaams everyone. Here is an outline of the hijab party: Date: July 6.

I. Hijab Facts
   A. Define What is Hijab
          1. Direct quotes from Quran and Hadith
   B. Answer Questions
          1. Explain the difference between Modest fashion and hijabi fashion
II. Demonstrate women who wear hijab
   A. Professional women
   B. Students
   C. Average Muslim women
III. Show what proper hijab looks like
   A. Show cultural attire (Examples)
        1. Malaysian clothing
        2. Sudanese clothing
   B. Show non-traditional clothing
       1. Maxi dress with cover-up
       2. Skirt & top (etc)
   C. Fashion show
   D. Game
        1. Is it hijab?
            a. Pictures are shown of people and the girls have to point out whether or not it is hijab. If it is not, they have to explain why that is. This game is not meant to be judgmental but rather to just look at the FACTS. There is no judging of the people in the pictures and they will all come from public domain. (Instagram, facebook, twitter)
IV. Our stories
   A. We (Older youth group) will share our stories of hijab. I want everyone to be honest; if there is something you struggle with, share it! hijab is something that many people struggle with and I want the girls to know that we all have been there/still are there.
V. Introduction of Ramadan Hijab Challenge.
    B. Every girl will get a hijab and a journal. The challenge is to wear hijab in Ramadan and write their thoughts and feelings. If they try to wear hijab and cannot do it, (and if they wish to share) we can talk about it. Find out what the issue is. Perhaps their mother doesn't do it, so they don't see why they have to. Maybe they feel ugly. By having a group of people going through it together, it will (in theory) make it easy for them.

I was also thinking maybe we could have a buddy system. We pair a younger girl with an older girl. The older girl will be there to talk about anything the younger girl needs. By having it be someone closer to their age (rules me out!), it can help make them more comfortable.

This is a general outline of the party. Any suggestions are encouraged. Also, We will have food. Just need to decide what to feed everyone. Also, Every girl will be receiving a hijab. We can purchase them, or we can look at the bajillion hijabs we all have and take from there. I think this personalizes it, but idk. I also want to recognize the girls in the community who already wear hijab. They should get something extra for that. Aisha and I saw like a pin set with like a bracelet and pin and I think earrings. It was cute. I know hijab is required, but we should reward those girls who wear it as a means of encouraging other girls.

So ya, that's it.
