Hi,

How many of us are interested in having a regular meetup? Format,
frequency and location to be discussed if there's enough interest to
support it, but I would be happy to organize it if there is.

Let me know what you think.

Craig.

I'll try to come  - problem is I'm in Brisbane most of the time....

Great idea though.... just try and pick somewhere central that everyone can get to... Gold Coast is notoriously bad for meetups because of our geography.

At the moment it looks like just the four of us! I'll leave it until
the weekend and see where we're at. If anyone else is interested
please let us know by then.

Thanks,

Craig

I'm a maybe, so if you keep posting the meetings, I might be able to come some time.

I have an umbrella group for all things open source on the gold coast

http://www.meetup.com/open-source-gold-coast/

This includes gclug and Open Source Developers Gold Coast - I can also add gcjug under this banner if you guys were interested. Java is all open source now with openjdk - so it kinda fits. Meetup is very handy for organising meetups.

We were also thinking of setting up a QJUG meetup group at some point too.... but we need to find someone to pay for it as we have used up all our meetup slots with current subscription.

Thanks Steve. With 4 'Yes's and 2 'Maybe's I guess it's worth getting
together at least once! If it becomes a regular thing then we can sort
out meetup.com.

So that takes care of the "who", now for the "where"! In what areas
does everyone live and work? Once I know, I'll try and pick somewhere
that's not too inconvenient for anybody!

I'm currently living in Hope Island but as of next week I'll be living
in Arundel Hills (near Helensvale) and I'm looking for work in
Brisbane (probably CBD).

I imagine that I could convince my boss that we should use a conference room at Promptu, which is located within Robina Town Centre.

I'm in West End, which is why I am only a maybe for now, but have  previously lived and worked on the GC, and have family there, and have designs on moving back some day.

Cool... we will be neighbours... I'm in Parkwood just down the road.

I do a lot of meetups at Town and Country Nerang as it's right in the middle of coast and near motorway. I don't mind though really.

I can get rooms at Griffith Uni if we want to do Uni thing.

If we could use it at least for the first one then that would be
great. I'm thinking that a 6pm start would probably work best for
those that are working in Brisbane?

Cool... ok - let's pick a date and get something going. I can't do first Wednesday or 3rd Thursday of the month - but should be able to make anything else given a bit of notice.

Maybe at the 1st meetup we can decide on a more regular date - I think it's good to have a regular timeslot that people can remember. Groovy meetup in Bris is last Monday of the month and I think QJUG (now BJUG) is first Monday when they do a meeting (or might be 3rd - I forget).

I personally find early in the week is better.... as later in the week things back up and people cancel or just don't turn up when they say they will.

How about the evening of Wednesday 28th April for the inaugral
meeting? Like Steve says, we can arrange a regular schedule from
there.

Add another one for a meetup. I think it conflicts with upstarta.biz

Righto, where are we up to on organising a meeting?

I think consensus has it on a Wednesday night.

We have a proposed date: 2010-04-28.

We have an initial venue: Promptu @ RTC.

Agreed?

Steve, should this be entered in the meetup site? Forgive my ignorance
of meetup.com.

Yep - let's put it up there.... and see what happens.

What time? 7:00? or earlier?

I've just pulled promptu address from google - Shop 5 Arbour Lane Terraces Robina Town Centre Drive Robina Town Centre QLD 4230 - can you confirm this is correct.

As far as a time goes, either 1800 or 1900 is fine with me, but that's
because I work there and do not have to travel. Would 1900 be better
for those that have to travel?

Sorry. I was planning on putting it on meetup but I've just moved
house and won't have been waiting for broadband to be installed. I did
try doing it on my iPhone but their mobile interface doesn't allow you
to set up meetings! She be back online this weekend and can set it up
then.
