The Google Code-in 2014 contest [0] has begun! Students who are 13-17 years old, enrolled in a pre-university program, and have their parent’s consent to participate can now go to the program site [1] and register as students. Students can look through over 1,800 available tasks in categories including coding, documentation, user interface, quality assurance, research, outreach and training and find a task that looks interesting to them and claim the task and start working on it.
This year each organization has posted a few beginner tasks that students can work on that will give them a good introduction to each open source organization.
The contest will continue until January 19, 2015. On the program site you can find Contest Rules, a Getting Started Guide, Frequently Asked Questions, and important dates for the contest.
You can join the Google Code-in discussion group to ask questions about the contest at https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/gci-discuss
Good luck and have fun!
