changes from warrior to king. Grendel is a monster who attacks the
kingdom because he is lonely. Hrothgar is the king and warns Beowulf
not to let his pride take control of him. Unferth is the foil
character and is jealous of Beowulf. Wiglaf represent Beowulf at the
beginning of the story and the future of heroism.
Theme: Lineage and identity are everything to the characters in the
story. The Heroic System and others like Christianity are incompatible
and cause problems with each other. In the story Beowulf mus give up
being a good warrior to be a good king.
