in book 14 it was a shorter chapter with not as much info. it talked
about Odysseus and Eumaeus are talking and have a meal together. i
dont really get what is going on and y does he praise his old master
and scorn his new one, and why does Odysseus lie to him about where he
lives.
in book 19, Odysseus and Telemachus are together and cut arms off of
the suitors i think, at least that is what i got out of it and then
Odysseus goes and talks to his wife who doesn't know that is it her
husband. she questions him for a while and then washes his feet and
sees a scare her husband has and finds out it is her husband and she
was excited. then she talks about a dream and Odysseus explains it to
her and then she tells him she is going to marry someone else. it will
be the first man to shoot an arrow through a hole surrounded by axes.

In book 14 Odysseus is back at his home island of Ithaca and disguises
himself as a warrior who fought with Odysseus in Troy. He stumbles
upon Eumaeus, who is one of his servants. Eumaeus offers O. food and a
place to sleep for the night, and while they are talking, O. attempts
to plant rumors of Odysseus' return, but Eumaeus refuses to believe
him because he has seen so many other vegabonds and beggars do the
same in return for food, clothes, and money.

In book 19 Odysseus and Telemachus gather all of O's weapons in order
to prepare for revenge on the suiters. T. is the only one on Ithaca so
far that knows of Odysseus' true identity. Odysseus, disguised as one
of Odysseus' friends, then goes to his wife, Penelope, and informs her
that Odysseus will soon arrive on Ithaca with many treasures. Penelope
is pleased with this news and wants O. to be her honored guest and
offers to have one of her servants wash O's feet. Odysseus selects
Eurycleia, who is the oldest of the servants, to wash his feet. She
notices the scar on O's leg and realizes that the old warrior is
actually Odysseus. Odysseus warns her to keep this information to
herself. Shortly after O. is done being bathed, Penelope comes along
and tells Odysseus of a dream she's had and that she will soon be
holding an archery contest of which the winner will marry Penelope.
Odysseus (still in disguise) tells Penelope not to worry because
Odysseus will return long before the suiters have crafted their bows.

Book 14: Odyssues returns to Ithaca and disguises himself as a warrior
who fought in war at Troy. He talks to his loyal swineherd Eumaeus
and finds out who has been loyal to him while he was gone and who he
can trust. He acts as a beggar and goes into his house for a feast.
He gets treated bad by the suiters as his house.

Book 19: Why would Odysseus tell Telemachus his true identity first
when he had never even met him before?

Why didn't Odysseus tell his wife who he was. I know he wanted to plot
against the suitors without them finding out but all she had to do was
lie. Penelope and the servant could have helped him get rid of them
but he seemed too prideful to ask for help.

Book14: What got out of it is that O went back to his homeland and met
upon one of his old friends that used to look after his sheep. He is
pleased to see that his friend has been loyal and has kept looking
after his sheep. His friend talks about how he loved O and hates the
suitors. O disguises himself because he wants to secretly check up on
people to make sure they have been loyal while he's been gone.

Book19: He returns to his home and he and his son get rid of the
weapons from the suitors. He disguises himself from his wife and tells
her he knows that O is coming back, although she doesn't believe him.
The old nurse is washing O's feet and realizes it's O from the scar on
his leg. He tells the nurse not to let his wife know. His wife also
tells him she's going to pick her husband soon by having them shoot
one arrow through 12 targets.

What I don't understand is why he can't tell his wife it's him. He can
she she's been loyal, and I think she'd also keep it a secret from
everyone before he kills the suitors...or whatever he's planning to do
to them. But, I suppose he has his reasons.

In book 14 Odysseus talks to Eumaeus. Eumaeus doesnt recognize
Odysseus as his former master. Odysseus just listens to the way he
talks about his lost master as he talks about how he doesnt like his
knew master. Odysseus lies to him and says he is from Crete.
In book 19 telemachus and Odysseus dispose the arms of the suitors. He
goes and talks to his wife but she doesnt recognize him. He tells a
story in great detail of meeting "himself." Penelope has a dream which
makes her decide to remarry. She says the first guy who can shoot an
arrow through holes of 12 axes in a line will be the lucky one.
Eurycleia washes Odysseus' feet and realizes who he is but Odysseus
tells her to be quiet and to keep in a secret. I dont understand why
he wont say who he is! Why is he keeping it a secret?

in 14 odyssues is not telling anyone who he really is and he just kind
of wants to see who was loyal to him and who he can still trust. he
tells all of his tales again but in a shorter story and he kind of
changed it a little bit so they wouldn't know it was really odyssues.

chapter 19 odyssues is with his son again and he knows that it is his
father. i think they get rid of the suitors and cut them up of body
parts off, i'm not sure. why did they have to put all the weapons
away...was that a threshold crossing?

Book 14 was short and easy. Odysseus is back at Ithica but Telemachus
is the only person that knows it is really Odysseus. Odysseus didn't
tell his wife Penelope that it was him because he wants to know if she
is still faithful.
Book 19 wasn't near as easy but Jordan's response really cleared it up

In book 14 he stumbles upon his old servant Eumaeus. Eumaeus doesnt
recongize Odyssey, he thinks he is just a guy who once met Odyssey.
Why doesnt he recongize Odyssey? Has he changed that much?

In book 19 Odyssey is back at his home, and Telemachus get rid of all
the weapons of the suitors, as part of their plan to take on the
suitors. Penelope thinks that Odyssey is just some begger who she is
letting stay at her house. Why doesnt she recongize him either? Thats

stuff. Odysseus says that he might soon see his former ruler. Eumaeus
says he doesn't want to want to hear anything about it. Why doesn't

know all about Odysseus since the "guest" knows him. Why does Odysseus
lie to his own wife? The lady who was washing Odysseus finds the scar
and right aways notices that it is him. Odysseus says to keep it a

but he answers saying hat the will be returning home in about a month.

knows it is him is talamachus. He does this to see who is still loyal

Ch. 19 The main thing in this chapter is odysseus and talamachus get

book 14 and book 15:

In book 14 I didn't really understand the reading. It has something to
do with an old man and Odysseus eating a meal together and plotting a
plan to escape. Or atleast thats hopefully what I was supposed to
understand.
In book 15 Odysseus is reunited with his wife. She doesn't believe it
is him at first until she washes his feet off and notices a scar that
she remembered Odysseus had had. She is so excited to see him but she
tells of a dream that she had had and asks Odysseus to explain it.
