Decipher my data! Flu! is a ground breaking research study, where
students and teachers pioneer a model for predicting influenza (Flu)
outbreaks.
Every year GPs see an enormous spike of patients suffering from Flu.
Dr Rob Aldridge and his team from University College London (UCL),
want to investigate whether school absence illness data can be used to
indicate Flu activity earlier than current models. This model would
help the NHS plan future Flu interventions and could eventually save
lives!
Schools across England and Wales are asked to enter their school
illness absence figures on this site, compare their data with national
Flu rates and then report their results to the team of UCL scientists.
The project is totally free for schools to run. Teachers should
register to take part and learn more about what is involved on the
teacher’s page. There are three phases to the Flu project, which are
covered in our comprehensive and flexible lesson plans for teachers.
