Hi Hilary,
I think you must be Sheryl's HOD? I have spoken to her about this recently.
1) We have a huge 6th form with over 1200 students so we may attract different students to you. I am the course lead and am finding that the Heads of dept for science are viewing it as an option for students who wouldn't cope with a 'pure science'
We have a number of students who are a little weak as a result. I am not sure this will help our residuals?
2) The science in society website (www.scienceinsocietyadvanced.org/) is spot on. The site also has a huge bank of resources to get you started. (some better than others of course)
3) A number of schools / colleges in the NE do it. Us - Durham 6th Form, New college Durham and cramlington High school.
4) In theory it is a proper 'a' level and university's accept it as such.
I have my own feelings on the course so if you want to chat feel free to give me a call. Sheryl has my number.
Cheers

Just to wish you all a Happy Christmas,
But also, following Chris' message, to say - please let us have any specific feedback you have about the SiS resources as you use them.
This can come directly to me, or feel free to use this forum to discuss how you have used the resources, and how they could be improved (we are not preciuos about them!)
We are already making some changes and additions to the resources in response to an SiS teacher day earlier this year - and we rely on feedback to know what is needed.

In case any of your students might be interested in this:
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics is running a bioethics film competition for students, as part of their 20th anniversary activities (and hopefully to repeat in future years).
The competition - Box Office Bioethics - is now open and has just been announced on the website:
News: http://www.nuffieldbioethics.org/news/box-office-bioethics
Further information: http://www.nuffieldbioethics.org/education/education-box-office-bioethics
I would be very grateful if you could circulate the announcement far and wide amongst your networks.
Best wishes,
Angela
