Created Compute Engine with Windows Image.
Installed Stack Driver logging agent on that instance.
Created one Application and my requirement is to display the application logs in the logs viewer. which is not happening.
Quick response will be appreciated

Can you provide answers to the questions below:

1- Windows image OS version you’re using. If it’s a custom image or one of Google Cloud provided images.
2- The Steps/Documentation that you followed to install “Stack Driver logging agent ”.
3- Did you notice any error message in the installation process.
4- If its possible, more details about the Application/Requirement to display the application logs in the logs viewer.
5- Any other relevant details will be helpful.

Hi,

Please find the information as requested by you.

Using Google Cloud provided image only.  Windows image OS version Windows server 2012 R2 us-east-1 region. For My project I have owner and LogsWriter Roles.

Steps followed:

created windows compute engine instance

installed stack driver logging agent by executing below commands in powershell

1) setx http_proxy http://[USERNAME] /m
2) cd C:\Users\[USERNAME]invoke-webrequest https://dl.google.com/cloudagents/windows/StackdriverLogging-v1-8.exe -OutFile StackdriverLogging-v1-8.exe;
.\StackdriverLogging-v1-8.exe

No error message while doing the installation.

Status of stack driver logging is running. But when I try to write a log message (Test message.. line Testing 123....) that message is not getting displayed in the logs viewer. ( no error either in the powershell prompt)

No Documentation provided to tweak .conf files to configure our application logs so that they can be collected by logging agent.

our Requirement is

---to deploy a web application in the compute engine windows instance and
---collecting the logs generated by application and storing the logs in StackDriver logs
-- and create the alerts based on the fields in the logs present in the  logviewer.

Please let me know if this is feasible using StackDriver at present?. Thanks loads in advance. Kindly revert in case if you need any details further.
setx http_proxy http://[USERNAME] /m

Hi,

Please see the following links which provides some guidance on how to collect your application logs.

You can review your application logs with the Stackdriver Logs Viewer. You can also visit this link on how to enable Google Stackdriver Logging, Monitoring and Error Reporting for ".NET" apps, as we can develop web applications using ".NET".

That being said, for information on creating an alerting policy I would recommend you to look at the Introduction to Alerting for more details.

Hi,

Thanks loads for your response. I have already gone through the stuff you shared but that didn't help our need. I might have confused you in providing the exact requirement.

Exact requirement:
1. Create compute engine windows instance
2. Download and install tomcat.
3. Deploy Java web application in the tomcat.
4. Install logging and monitoring agent.
5. My application logs should be shown in the logs viewer.

I am facing challenge at 5th point. To be precise, I did not find any .Conf files to configure logging agent so that it can pick those specified log files and display the logs in the console.

Please let me know this requirement can be a doable or not?

Once again thanks a lot for your help and support.

According to our Monitoring Agent documentation, I found that we monitor third-party applications that we list in the following guide, like Tomcat for example.

I was also able to find documentation about how you can configure the Monitoring agent to recognize and export application metrics to Stackdriver that I would recommend you to visit for more details.
