I got an email last month saying the new free VM on on Compute Engine Free Tier will be the E2-Micro starting 1 August 2021.

However it's 2 August 2021 and nothing has changed. What is the status?

Did you try it? Are you getting a full free tier discount for it?

I and others have found that the CPU component of the discount only appears to be covering 1/4 of the core cost - i.e if you are charged $0.12 for E2 Instance Core running in Americas", you only get -$0.03 for "E2 Instance Core running free tier discount", for the same number of core hours (which themselves are 1/4 of the instance running hours).

The RAM charges do not have such an issue. It is being discussed at https://www.reddit.com/r/googlecloud/comments/ow9hwu/anyone_incurring_charges_for_new_free_tier/ (and across Twitter, especially in Japanese.)

Best regards,
