Hello,

I get the following error when I try to use gcloud alpha:

ERROR: (gcloud.alpha.compute.backend-services.create) Some requests did not succeed:
 - Required 'Alpha Access' permission for 'Compute API'

I've read somewhere that I need to get my project white listed, but not sure how to do that. Can anyone help me please? I need to use it in order to setup SSL for my compute engine load balancer.

Thank you,

- Ali

Hello Ali,

In general all Google Cloud Alpha features require whitelisting the account to get access. The form to request the access is available on the product page.

For your setup, if you require load balancing with SSL termination you can take a look at HTTPS load balancer, where the client SSL session terminates at the load balancer. Sessions between the load balancer and the instance can either be HTTPS (recommended) or HTTP. For more information on HTTPS load balancer you can refer to this link. To setup SSL for HTTPS load balancer you can refer to this help center article. Both of these feature are under general availability and doesn't require whitelisting.

I hope that helps.

Just to clarify for future readers: Alpha products are usually not available to the general public as they are in an early testing phase and usually require specific agreements with Google, for testing specific features, and are often directly supported by the engineering team building the feature. I say "usually" because there are sometimes a few features made available publicly in Alpha.

If you have not been contacted about an Alpha program by a Google employee, you probably won't have access. Once invited to an Alpha, it is true that API access is controlled through the "whitelisting" mechanism described earlier.
