The legality of it I question only because Google has yet to answer our questions about it here on this forum, and I even have a paid support contract and I still haven't heard from them.

But screw it, I'm running 3cx until they tell me otherwise.

It works well for me, and very few dropped calls!

I believe the whole legality thing is that you need to be running VoIP legally. If you sell/resell VoIP you need to be registered and pay all required fees. One of the requirements in states is FCC registration and e911 requirements. International calls touching US servers need to be licensed/registered too. That way Google is not responsible for your VoIP business that may not be legalized in country where you run it.

That's wired that nobody clarified that to you yet. Google answered and clarified my VoIP questions years ago within a week.

Regards,
Arek

Hello Edwin,

Here is a similar group discussion [1] that specifies that, "GCE cannot connect to the telephone network, but we can certainly host a communications service such as Asterisk."
But there are some "terms of service"[2] that need to be followed.
You can follow the discussion [1] for more information.

What channel did you reach out to them on, that they answered you so fast?

With the GCP VOIP, in simple answer(yes/no), would I be able to route my landline calls through my GCP VOIP?

I’m located in Vanuatu, would that FCC registration and e911 requirements affect me as well if I’m routing my calls from Vanuatu to NZ/AU.?

Hi Edwin,

There unfortunately isn't a definitive answer to your question as this is immensely broad and there are certain considerations to be thought of. I will however do my best to answer it.

In theory you would be able to run a VoIP infrastructure on GCE. You would need something like Asterisk to act as a server. But even in this case, there are many things to consider, mostly around networking. I should also mention that asterisk is an open source framework and is not supported by GCP. As per the above posts, I would suggest looking into Asterisk and contacting their support [1] for any additional configuration with VOIP.

As for your second questions, unfortunately this is not related to Google Cloud Platform, and as such, we would not be able to answer this question accurately.
