I have successfully been using the app 'Chrome RDP for Google Cloud Platform' from FusionLabs to connect to my VM instance in Google Compute Engine when I am on my Chromebox or Chromebooks.  The app launches from within GCE when I click the RDP button which appears at the end of my listed instance. At this time that button no longer launches the app, and yes, I still have it installed and enabled. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, logging out of Chrome, back in, etc. Attached is a screen capture. I don't know of any other way to connect to my VM instance in Google Compute Engine from Chrome OS, so if anyone has any ideas why this stopped working for me, let me know. Thanks!

Hello Kindra,

Are you by any chance trying to use the RDP button from an incognito window? What is the version of the browser and the extension you are using?

Sincerely,
George

Good questions, George. No, not in incognito. I'm using Chrome OS Version 48.0.2564.116 (64-bit) on a stable channel. Platform 7647.84.0 (Official Build) stable-channel mccloud

The FusionLabs Chrome RDP for GCP extension is versio4.6.2.4

Hello Kindra,

I wasn't able to reproduce your issue on a similar platform, as everything is working as expected. Your Chrome profile might be corrupted in some way, is it possible to create a new profile and try the same scenario?

Sincerely,
George

Thanks. I gave another google profile (my business partner) editor permissions to the project and he installed the Chrome RDP for GCP extension, also. But he experiences the same issue, when he clicks on the RDP button which appears at the end of the listing of the VM instance, it does not launch the RDP, instead just pops up the window instructing one to connect using an RDP or to download the RDP extension.

We also tried it from inside a Chrome browser on a Windows machine, same result - the RDP button does not launch the app.

Update: Still unable to launch Chrome RDP for GCP within GCE, however, as of today, I am now able to manually enter the IP into the regular FusionLabs app for Chrome RDP (not the GCP version) and it opens my VM.  Of course, I launched the Chrome RDP app manually from a browser tab (not from within GCE). In the past, as recently as yesterday, the Chrome RDP app did not open my VM, only the GCP version would work. But at least now, I can access my VM, I don't really care that I have to launch an app manually to do it.

Hello Kindra,

I was able to spin up a brand new Windows instance and I was able to reproduce the same issue. I would recommend filing an issue in the Public Issue Tracker with all the details and reproduction steps, so our engineering team can review it and any updates about it will be posted there as well.

Sincerely,
George
