How do you install a GUI on Ubuntu Server in Google Compute Engine (GCE)?

I deployed an Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS Virtual Machine (VM) in the Google Compute Engine. However, I am unable to make the GUI to start. I followed all the steps found inhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/ServerGUI, but nothing worked.

I would like to install LXDE for my server but it is very hard to make it work. When I reboot the machine it loads Ubuntu Server in Command Line and when I run sudo startx, I get following error:

It appears the instructions you point to don't given many details on the required forwarding of X11 via ssh -- plenty of details, however, are given at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27232139/how-can-i-connect-to-google-compute-engine-virtual-server-with-gui (as usual, technical question are best researched and asked on stackexchange sites -- this one would be better for serverfault, since it's all about system administration and not at all about software development, but, the answer's good anyway:-).
