Hello
What are the params to deploy the free f1-micro instance? Because when I try to deploy one, it sais that I have to pay per month, but in the free trial page it sais that it's always free
Also, the unique machine type I can select is a micro one, not f1-micro

Hello Diego,

You will get a specific free limit usage every month with GCE Always Free. The usage will be calculated every month at the end of your billing cycle. If you go over your usage limit you will be charged for the extra usage. The parameters for Always Free usage is as following:
  • 1 f1-micro VM instance per month (US regions, excluding Northern Virginia).
  • 30 GB of Standard persistent disk storage per month.
  • 5 GB of snapshot storage per month.
  • 1 GB egress from North America to other destinations per month (excluding Australia and China).
For more information you can visit Always Free FAQ.

So, this configuration is correct and nothing will be charged:

It still sais that it has a cost per month. Also, it sais that my first 720 are free, but a month has 730 hours
So, if I deploy that VM, my credit won't be down, even if it's my trial credit, no?

Hello Diego,

The cost shown on your cloud console is an estimate the actual cost will be calculated ever month based on the on the total number of hours in a month as mentioned here:

How much time is "1 month" of f1-micro instance usage?

For f1-micro instances, we will give you free usage equivalent to the number of total hours within the current month, enough to run one instance without interruption for the entire month. For example, March has 744 Hours (31 days x 24 hours). You therefore receive 744 instance hours of free usage for the month. April has 720 hours, giving you 720 instance hours of free f1-micro usage in April.

As such,  you will not pay extra if you stay within the parameters of Always Free usage(as mentioned in my previous reply).

What does "1 GB egress" mean? It is the bandwidth or total data cap? How about the cost of incoming data or uploading to the VM?

1 GB egress traffic means 1GB exiting traffic or downloaded traffic from Google Cloud Platform. Egress traffic is charged based on the source and destination.

Incoming or uploading data is free in GCP. You can check this [1] document for details information. You can also see this similar Stackoverflow thread in this [2] link.

Hi Zhiyong,

Egress means how much data you download from your machine to the internet.

There is no charge for incoming (Ingress) to Google cloud.

I hope this helps
