Hi all, I hope someone can help me out here.  I just signed up for google cloud platform and setup 1 VM and site to site VPN to our office.   I need to have SSL VPN for individual users so they can connect the network from home or anywhere they want.  I cannot find answers for that.  Can anyone help me out please?

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

You will never find any answer for that because no one will teach you here how to setup VPN.

- If you are looking for consumer VPN solution for anonymous user access try softether.
- if this is totally official try openvpn. use easy-rsa scrip that will help you create users and manage certificates more easily.

Thanks,
Yousuf

Thanks Yousuf,

I have no problem setting up a VPN services.  I just didn't know if GCP will support "road warrior".  In their document did state that "road warrior" are not supported currently.

I will look into both solutions that you mentioned.  I can always enable VPN from windows 2012 with open ports also.

Thanks

No offense Brother i though you were not aware of VPN. Please don't get confuse with the VPN type. whether road warrior or site to site openvpn. if site 2 site work then road warrior will definitely work. i find no reason for not providing Road Warrior/VPN on GCE, they provide OS and you can install whatever you want, though you will not get GUI in openvpn package alone. people are commonly use to configure openvpn on GUI firewalls like ipcop and pfsense etc. alternatively here you have to use CLI a bit uncomfortable mode for GUI users but the beauty of linux is CLI for sure :). its not hard to configure use easy-rsa script. even pptp, l2tp/ipsec, microsoft VPN,  and all other vpn protocol will work. Google Just provide you a platform and you are the one who has to set it the way you want. Google give you just Full Linux version of your choice.

I hope that helps.

BTW, the point is i dont know whether you are looking to install Openvpn on Windows or Linux, all i am sharing is related to Linux only.  i am opensource enthusiast :).
but technically my comments can be applied on windows VPS also.

Hello Jeffery,

Unfortunately Google Cloud VPN doesn't support "road warrior". However, as a workaround you can setup a "jump server" which might work for your use case. I was able to find this Help Center article that describes how to setup a "jump server" and this ServerFault post that might help you as well.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
George
