Has anyone seen similar problems with Windows images and know the cause/remedy?

I would normally expect a prebaked image to boot without errors in the event log.

Detailed error text and event log below.

MSDTC is the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator, it's used for distributed transactions on Windows systems for things like databases or clustered applications, usually using the COM interface.

Unless you're running any distributed applications that are built using these primitives (which would be very rare these days), this isn't something to really worry about. There's likely some GCE customizations to the OS image that interfere with the MSDTC service but it's not stopping you from doing anything, especially if you're running a brand new image.

Thanks for describing MSDTC and COM - Although I was more hoping for an explanation of the nature of the error and how it crept into a brand new image from Google.
It worries me that a Google supplied image would have a problem like that on first boot without any modifications.

Hi Johan,

Thanks for reporting this. I don't have an answer as to why this message might be showing up, but wanted to let you know that we've made a note of it, and are investigating if there's any misconfiguration or other issue to explain it.
