I have a VM in google cloud and I've been using it for almost 3 years.

Specs: Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU @ 2.30GHz Windows 64 bits 1 vCPUj, 5,5 GB / 200GB space, 50GB free

Via windows explorer, I am trying to copy the file C:\Users...\Box\bnc\db\revs\0 into my desktop , but I am getting this error:

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x800704D5: The operation could not be completed. A retry should be performed."

I have read that this may mean a lower level failure in I/O.

  • Has anyone gone through this before?

  • And if the hard disk itself is failing, how do I get in touch with google about that, considering that I have got this basic plan, where I don't have access to "advanced support"?

Although in this case this is a serious issue on their side I believe.

Hi there,

I understand your concern and I can see that this error is hindering you from your usual operations. However the issue you're facing is at the Windows OS level and not at the GCP infrastructure side. Upon my research, I did find a similar video on Youtube however the error message was not exactly the same. If the solution provided there does not help, I would also suggest contacting the Windows support as the error is native to the operating system and not related to GCP.

I hope this helps you.
