When do deleted projects actually get purged from my account?

I recently encountered an error while trying to create a project on my account, informing me that I had reached my project limit. However, I have only 1 active project - whereas the limit, according to various StackOverflow answers, is 6. Then I realized that projects that I had deleted earlier (more than 3 months ago) were still under the "Resources Pending  Deletion". Is it normal to take >1 month to delete projects? If not, how can I expedite this process?

Hello Varad,

Regarding the number of projects that one account can create please visit this thread that my colleague has answered a similar question.

About shutting down of a project, this article describes:

Shutting down a project does not delete the project immediately; it only requests deletion of the project. The project is marked for deletion ("soft deleted"), and you will lose access to it immediately, but the project can be recovered for a 30 day period. The project owner will receive an email notification that the project has been marked for deletion. During the 30 day period, the owner can recover the project by following the steps to restore a project. After the 30 day period, the project and all the resources under are wiped out and cannot be recovered.

That being said, if your projects are not wiped out after 30 days of shutting down please don't hesitate to email me one of your project IDs and I'll be glad to investigate the issue.

Sincerely,

Viggo Navarsete

Hi Kamran,
I also experience projects still not being purged, blocking me from making other (free) projects.

Hi

As mentioned above, the 30-day period is to allow recovery of resources. However, you can ask for a quota increase for projects even on free trial.

Will I still be billed for next 30 days or billing stops the minute you shutdown the project?

Shutting down the project should be good enough to stop billing. You may also send a quick message to billing on chat here in order to make sure.

Dear All,
I have deleted a project over a month ago as i need to close my organization's account. However it has been over 2 month and the system still shows
"You have active projects in Google Cloud Platform. You need to delete all GCP projects before you can delete this account"
when i click to active projects, it shows non, but shows me resources pending deletion. and when i click on that, nothing shows up, just the page keeps loading indefinitely.
can someone help please?
Thanks

Hello Bernard,

I would suggest you create a case at this link [1] so that your issue can be investigated.

Regards,

Frederic

Hi Bernard,

You can use the "Compute" component and put "Other" as the subcomponent. Support team members can change the components once the case is assigned to them.

Jason
