Hi,
I'm running Google Instance VM with Ubuntu software and setting up Wordpress websites linked to SQL instance through public IP.

My problem for now that I only can upload files (themes, plugins, media) only through FTP app with SSH key. And through the Terminal and this is not a very good solution and waste a lot of time.

I already setup firewall/port 21. But nothing fixed. Tried to use (enable SSH plugin that asks me to upload the private key but also not worked!

What to do please help ASAP.

Hello Moh'd,

You can upload files to your VM instance through SFTP (e.g. FileZilla, WincSCP etc). The steps are documented on this link[1] under the heading "How To Upload Files To The Server With SFTP?."

If you are using Linux or OSX based workstation to connect to VM, you can also use the native file browser to transfer files. The steps can be found on this link [2].

I hope that helps.

To upload file through WordPress you need to install plugins. I'm not a WordPress expert but quick search gave me this[1] which might be useful.

For further assistance regarding WordPres, I would recommend posting your question on Serverfault with wordpress tag or can in touch with WordPress support[2]. This forums is for GCE discussion and not the best place to find answer to your question.

You are killing me, man, I know how to upload files through Wordpress but the problem is that the ftp in my site is not activated and I can use only the SSH through FileZilla and the terminal .. I want to know how I can ignore this and upload files/update data directly from Wordpress without using FileZilla or the terminal to do that "directly from the Wordpress" to do that I have to activate the FTP. I already added the 21 port to the firewall but I still can't use the FTP. How to do that?

Hello Moh'd,

Do you have FTP server running on your VM? If not, you need to install and configure FTP server (e.g. vsftpd). This link has the steps to configure vsftpd on Ubuntu.

If you already have configured the FTP server on your VM and its not working can you provide me with the error message along with the details of your configuration.
