Hi,

We tried to use Teamviewer as VPN on our Windows Server 2012 R2 instance.  It worked for a while and then stopped working.  We have now tried to set up Windows Server internal VPN but after doing it, one can not access anything on the Windows Server firewall settings.  Are GCE blocking self configured VPN's or what would be the problem  We don't have a VPN server infrastructure on our side and would be doing client to GCE Instance connections to access our SQL Server 2014 database.

Please help.

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

You should be able to setup IPSec VPN from your non-Cloud gateway to your VM instance, as the GCE firewall/network support this protocol. This article describes an example scenario that connects a VPN gateway instance (Linux based) in Compute Engine to a Debian-based VPN gateway in your non-Cloud network.

The other option is using Google Compute Engine VPN which supports gateway-to-gateway scenarios and you can have multiple tunnels to a single VPN gateway.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Kamran

Hello, I have one question relation to this:

********************
In some cases, you might have a corporate mail server that is already running an email service for you. If you need to send mail through a corporate mail server but are blocked by the port restrictions described at the top of this page, you can use a VPN to bypass these restrictions.

My question is:

Can I use: ( The other option is using Google Compute Engine VPN which supports gateway-to-gateway scenarios and you can have multiple tunnels to a single VPN gateway.)

¿ For mail corporate via VPN ?

Hello Alexis,

In order to workaround the port restrictions on Google Compute Engine instance you can use Google Compute Engine VPN to create a VPN tunnel with your corporate network. With that said, you need to make sure you have right forwarding rules and the remote mail server is visible to the GCE instance to make this setup work.

I hope that helps.
