There is something I hope we consider down the line, is to pick up something Jerry used to do, and that is creator questionaires. Much of the Who's Who is driven by what the creators reported to Jerry in the questionaires he sent out. It would be nice to figure out some way of doing something similiar along an electronic vein for the 21st century...

I agree with this, but I think before we solicit creator input online, we need to really sit down and put together a privacy policy.  That's outside the scope of this committee; it's something we talked about on the board list last year (IIRC).  I think I have it as a pending agenda item; I'll try to open it soon for discussion.  But unless we have a very clear privacy policy in place many creators may be a bit leery of filling in any kind of form that requires them to provide, say, an email address in case there are questions.

OK if you think so I won't argue the point. But remember, many creators were leary of filling out Jerry's questionaire too (Trina Robbins I remember clearly being one who wondered where he got all that information on her he had (all of it she had provided either in her published work or interviews over time as it turned out) and didn't know him from adam so she wouldn't fill out a questionaire). Jerry managed not to have a privacy policy during all of that.

It seems to me, a creator either will or won't do a questionaire, irregardless of policy. Their choice will be based on their own personal reasons. But I also understand why such policy needs to be created, as we live in a society that is fixated on CYA. So we wait on this until such policy is achieved.

my best

During Jerry's time, hardly anyone had heard of a "privacy policy", if such a concept even existed.  These days it is a well-established legal concept and a requirement in many jurisdictions.  It is merely a formalization of the same concerns that Jerry faced.  You establish one for the same reasons that the GCD created a non-profit foundation instead of staying an informal collection of people on the internet.

thanks,
