OK, I think I'm about ready to start this, sorry for the delay. I
hope our ill members are well, and that Ray and Jamal have traded
whatever database info they needed to.

Welcome to everyone. So everyone else knows who is here, here's
the list of people subscribed to this group:
Don Milne,
Christopher Gonzales,
Henry Andrews,
Lionel English,
Matthew Gore,
Tony Rose,
additionally, at their request I have invited the following, though they
do not yet appear to have subscribed (I don't think you can post or
receive future group e-mails. If you guys need me to repeat the
invitation, let me know):
Jochen Garcke,
Derek Reinhard,
Lou Mazzella,
Ray Bottorff,
Jamal Walton.

Here's what I see as an outline of what we need to do:
To facilitate discussion, list out the data fields currently in the
Who's Who,
Compile a list of what we want to store for each creator within the GCD,
Compare both to our current GCD database structure, discussing concerns
and implementation ideas,
Make a recommendation to the Board, which will then make a decision on
what to hand to the tech team.

Unless anyone has other ideas of our process, I'll send an e-mail
listing the Who's Who data in a couple days (maybe by then the missing
members will have subscribed).

One thing I was wondering is if there aren't two time-scales involved
in this.

One short time, do we want to do something soonish to have to who's
who accessible from/present at/... comics.org

One mid (or more likely long) term, do we want to use it as a starting
point of a creator table.

Another thing, currently this group is for public-view, other
committes are not.

I don't see any pressing need to add anything to comics.org as long as the original remains available at bailsprojects.com.  Though perhaps we could add a link to the Who's Who from comics.org somewhere more prominant than the wiki and perhaps we could add a linkback to the comics.org on the Who's Who site (and/or contact info for who to contact if the site is acting up--could point to con...@comics.org if Jamal doesn't want his email address up there).  Converting the db probably wouldn't be that hard--it's written in SQL Server and ASP I believe but it has a fairly simple structure IIRC.  But I don't see a compelling reason to do the conversion when instead we could just begin work on the replacement.

I like the idea of back and forth links.

About the public view of the committee, I can change that if
desired. I just left it in default because I couldn't think of a reason
not to be public, and didn't know the other committees were not.

Links between the two sites, on their front pages, is a good idea
now that they are under the same umbrella. And considering that Who's
Who just had an outage and folks brought it to Main, a contact e-mail is
an excellent idea.

Some are and some aren't.  I'm pretty sure the strip committee is/was public.

There is no pressing need, but maybe there is some gain to have these
more interlinked ?

E.g. on the Who's Who-page a link to a GCD-search for that creator name.

E.g. on a search results page for a given creator name a link to the
corresponding Who's Who-page.

Maybe some other cases. Some of this could be done with fully separate
sites, some of this maybe note.

There is something I hope we consider down the line, is to pick up something Jerry used to do, and that is creator questionaires. Much of the Who's Who is driven by what the creators reported to Jerry in the questionaires he sent out. It would be nice to figure out some way of doing something similiar along an electronic vein for the 21st century...
