API expectations on fields

Wondering while seeing if we do some JSON import,
for an issue we have fields that might not be valid for issues of a
series, e.g. 'isbn', 'barcode', 'title', or 'variant_name' for the base
issue.
Should the API still expose these fields for affected issues, or only
expose valid fields ?
