Hi everyone,
I noticed that the new site layout automatically generates a face thumbnail for creators based on their images.
I was wondering—would it be possible to apply the same principle or algorithm to comic covers, in order to extract and index character faces?
It could be a useful way to enrich character profiles in a consistent, automated way, aligned with our internal database.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Simone
I'll give it a try on the beta.
One possible approach could be similar to the old Facebook photo tagging system.
The main issue is that if a cover gets replaced with a version of different resolution, the tags might no longer align properly.
Also, for some characters, showing just the face isn’t enough—it would be helpful to include the body too, since visual identification often relies on costumes or distinctive physical features.
At that point, though, it would require manually selecting a crop from the image—so the face detection algorithm might not even be necessary.
Just thinking out loud as I write...
