Hello, It has been almost a year now since anything has happened with
this project. Is there any chance this is going to start? Some of us
newspaper comic collectors want to start complying our knowledge of
comic strips together. I really wanted this to happen but I guess
its just a dream.

It will happen, but not in the near future.  Probably not this year.

The project is definitely not dead. This list did do what it was suppose to, create what we want to see and how to link it up to the rest of the GCD. Now its up to us to implement it. Like Lionel said, it may take time, but we are committed to it. I know I am very much.

Thank you, I am so ready to start compiling information. There are
so many times I have need a reference when trying to find a small
short lived comic strips.

I do wish this were already under way. What procedures need to be
complete to have this move forward? If I need to do anything to
make it happen I could try?

The major bottleneck is programming. The GCD has only a handful of
programmers and they are busy with improvements/alterations to the
main database. If you know some programmer who would want to
volunteer their time, send them our way for specifics.

There are two main hurdles.

One is limited tech resources (i.e. programmers).  We only have one main programmer, and a couple of intermittent programmers who contribute now and again.  But the main stuff is mainly handled by (at present) one programmer.  If you know a comics fan who is also a Python/Django programmer who you could talk into volunteering some time, that would help us.

The other major hurdle is priorities.  There are two large projects in front of the strip project.  One of them is totally unrelated, a project to create a collection management feature as an add on to the main site.  The main hope with this project is that it would actually bring in more people to the site, which in turn would bring in more revenue and potentially more tech help.

The second project is a "Who's Who" type project.  This would tie in both to the existing comic book project and to the proposed comic strip project.  Table of comics creators and professionals with biographic info, etc.  I think the comic strip project would be next in the queue after that one.
