Internationalization goals

I hope I'm not spoiling anything by talking about this early ;-)
So here's a suggestion:
Belief: Given our international focus, we should have ways both to
cross-reference data between different languages and to allow
communities focused on a specific language to work autonomously.
Goal: Finish localized versions of our site in the most common languages
Plan: Investigate using tools like Transifex (http://www.transifex.net/),
Pootle (http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/index) and
http://translatewiki.net/ to co-ordinate and outsource website translation.
Plan: Call for volunteers for the more common GCD languages
Measurement: Deploy fully localized comics.org in German, French,
Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish by mid-2011
(comment: I think this is realistic and doable give or take some
languages from this list)
Goal: Track the language used for all text in the database
Plan: Indexing for international comics is done both in English and
native languages, with no distinction between them. Design a way to
tag text by language.
(Comment: Just an idea of mine - don't know if we want to tackle this in
the forseeable future or if it's useful or a distraction)
Goal: Allow localized versions of database text, including both GCD's
structure (story types, genres, keywords, etc) and content (creator
names, story titles, synopses)
Plan: Design a way to allow this in the database
(Comment: As before - would be cool but I don't know how realistic it
is)
Comments? I know the latter two items belong in the blue sky category,
so any plan of implementing them will have to wait a couple of years.

the less I have to :-) I'm battling some sort of horrible sinus infection (on
week #3) and really not getting much done :-/
