Going over the genre document, I discovered that we never discussed Spy!

From the agenda and several random posts, there was an idea to change the name of this genre to espionage.  Here is a hastily-created listing:

34. Espionage

A. This genre consists of works featuring spies, secret agents, and secret service agencies.
B. Example keywords include thriller and political.
C. Examples include Man from U.N.C.L.E., Modesty Blaise, and Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Need approval of the name change as well as approval/modification of the definition, keywords, and examples.

There is absolutely no reason to change the name of this genre.  I went along with persiflage like anthropomorphic because an argument was made that it covered more ground than funny animal- but making a word longer just for the sake of making it longer, even in an drop-down is just out-of-control pedantiveness.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

(In other words...any other changes to the suggested data?)

I have to agree with Bob. If we were naming it then espionage would
possibly be better. Since we already have spy I see no need to change
it

'spy' works for me.

not sure about the inclusion of nick fury as an example - shield always struck me more as fbi than cia…

I have no problem with this.  Spy or espionage -- either one will work for me.

See no reason to change for the sake of change but the one not used
should at least be a keyword :)

That's very reasonable.

If we can poke our sleeping members and get this done, we can move on to our final debates.

I think the only real debate is do we want to change the name. I think
at least that can be put to an immediate vote.

No need to vote unless the sleeping members feel strongly about it.

So is the general ambivalence to change and more support for keeping
spy mean it will stay spy?

That's the way I would read it.

I think we should keep the genre.  I do think Espionage is a better name, but don't feel strongly enough about it to overturn the history associated with Spy.

the Spy genre ..
