GCD taxes for 2025

    Despite being a non-profit, due to our past receipt of advertising revenuse we will need to pay taxes again this year.  As I noted last year, I am not able to follow or understand how Rehmann accounted for that income and what portion was excepted from our tax-free basis.  It appears to me to have been arbitrary and therefore I am not able to calculate our taxes for this year.

    Therefore, I am again recommending we hire Rehmann to prepare our tax forms, for 2025.  I have received an estimate of $1,200 - $1,250 for this work.  Last year we paid $1185.  Are there any thoughts or a motion on this subject?  Or, perhaps someone else wishes to try to do the taxes?

Not part of that motion, but it might be reasonable for us to hire
someone to be a bookkeeper or some such,
if we want to discuss either doing that (or why we shouldn't), please
start a new post to keep this thread

    As we had a Treasurer who unfortunately did not finish the year, I have compiled our income and expenses so that I can forward it to Rehmann if we have them do the tax work.  I've attached the year-end accounting.  If there are any specific questions, just ask.

I move that Rehmann be engaged to prepare the organization’s annual tax returns on an ongoing basis, beginning with the last fiscal year, and continuing each year thereafter unless and until this authorization is modified or rescinded by action of the board.

    I would note that generally, I am loathe to tie future Boards to a vendor we want to do business with now.  However, this is not a long-term contract and can be changed with a simple vote by any future Board.

    Some additional information on our taxes for consideration.  I took a close look at our returns for the past 2 years since we re-attained tax-free status.  We did not actually pay any tax for 2024, though the form preparation cost $1185.  There is a balance from previous profits that is steadily declining and appears it will disappear in 3 years (2025-2026-2027).  After that point, I anticipate tax preparation should be easy for anyone to do unless we engage in some new profit-making activity.

As much as I hate paying this kind of money for tax preparation I agree with hiring Rehman to do our taxes again this year.  If we can do it ourselves in a couple of years that would be nice, and it sounds like that is a real possibility.
