Hi Guangzhou, HK, and Shanghai Committees,
Please distribute the following email to everyone in your committees. We want to find the best people for our teams in China, and make sure that everyone understands how the teams will operate in the future. Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, Wenyi, can you please forward this to all the conference planners?
Thanks,
Daniel
Hey
China Affairs,
We will now begin looking for 2011-2012 school year leaders in the City Committees and
China Affairs
(if you are currently a committee leader, don't worry--you are still in
charge through the end of the summer!). Right now, we are seeking the
following positions:
- Director of China Affairs
- Associate for Beijing Committee
- Associate for Shanghai Committee
- Associate for Guangzhou Committee
- Associate for Hong Kong Committee
Below is a description of how the teams will work. If you are interested in taking on a leadership role, please respond to
inte...@gccglobal.org by Monday
July 25.
Include three things: short bio, description of why you want to take
on the role, and major goals you have for the team this year. Also,
don't be afraid to apply if you are young (大一、大二), GCC loves young
leaders!
Organizational Distinctions:China Affairs--division of GCC Management; not a local group
--does not make HR decisions for
China Affairs
--can make HR decisions for City Committees
--reports all
committee activity to Management Officers
City Committees
--centrally lead local groups; under guidance of
China Affairs--hold local activities in collaboration with
China Affairs and GCCers around the world
People:
Being part of China Affairs is representing an international nonprofit in China; it is very different from being part of a Chinese college student group.
China Affairs Director--incredibly strong leader
--proven dedication to GCC
--deeply understand sensitive political issues
Associates
--1 per City Committee; represent his/her city at China Affairs
--lead committees, not activities
--do not make HR decisions
Student Ambassadors (committee members)
--Many per City Committee
--Diverse group of both Chinese and non-Chinese
--Handle event/project logistics
Activities:
During the school year
1 prepare for summer activities
--marketing
--team building
--planning
2 bidirectional Initiative activity (research, volunteer, event, and other project collaborations with students outside China)
--planning support
--logistics
During the summer
1 conduct summer activities
--ensure team works well
--ensure nothing sensitive is done
2 prepare for following year
--planning
--Flex
Some other ideas:1. Gmail is not working half the time in China. I don't know
how long that's gonna last, but it is a serious impediment to work
efficiency. We might buy a VPN group package to solve the
problem. This would also solve problems with Google docs, Wiki, Ning -
the whole suite.
2. Meetings. People who take on these roles
need to break away from the concept that work must be completed
in-person. GCC is a global organization in the 21st Century. As such,
everyone within the organization's leadership must be very comfortable
with 21st Century ways of working in teams and conducting business.
This means that most Management meetings will be held online, not face-to-face. That is just the nature of our organization.
Sorry for the length of the email. Good luck in the application, I look forward to talking with you!
