Hey GCC Guangzhou,
My name is Luke Yarabe. As you all know, I'm a student at Harvard University and I probably met most of you at various times throughout the summer and at the GCC event on August 5th. Tonight (Tuesday evening), I am having dinner with some friends at Vaastu (an Indian Restaurant in Guangzhou. Go to Huanshi Dong Lu Exit A, Line 5, Zoo Station). If you're free, please join me. I'd love to have a chat before most of you go back to school.
Also, I don't know who's still here in Guangzhou, and I know its short notice, but I thought I'd reach out to you all and ask for your support in a project I'll be working on for the next handful of months.
The project's name is "Helpful Conversations." Initially, I had it named Guangzhou Conversations, but I believe that when its all said and done, the concept can be expanded into cities worldwide. I want to start in Guangzhou and Boston though because my twin can manage it from Harvard's campus and I can manage it here from Guangzhou for the next handful of months.
Please open the attached PDFs and read them through slowly. Its a simple concept and a simple plan. But in order for it to work, I will need help from those of you that go to school or college here in Guangzhou. For this project to evolve into a movement or literally a massive company, I will need your support in the following areas:
I need a handful of speakers, moderators, translators, people that can help maintain our social media presence via Qzone, RenRen, and the Weibos, I need others to give me more topic ideas, to tell your friends, to put me in touch with your principals or high level school administrators, I need others to help me on local strategy, national strategy, and global strategy, our offline strategy, mobile strategy, and online strategy, I need others to help on marketing, and so on and so forth. If you want to jump and help, I'd appreciate it. I can't promise compensation right now as I don't foresee revenue (or anything more than trivial expenses) in the next few months.
Guys. This is a big risk of my time, sanity, and money over these next four or five months as I also have a paid full-time job here that I can't neglect. But I've talked to some serial entrepreneurs and business school professors from Shanghai, the US, and even Japan in the last couple weeks. They believe in this project and they believe in me. But no one believes in this project more than i do. And no one has more vested in its success or failure than I.
I hope some of you all can help me.
I will pitch it to you all officially this Saturday afternoon (2-4 pm potentially) at our office's conference room in Zhu Jiang New Town. I'll send you all an official email on that by Thursday.
Please come out to Vaastu tonight and lets talk.
It would be great if you could give me a text
(15018491866) by tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon so I can reserve tables). At this moment, I have 4 attending. Me and my friend from Harvard (she's a rising senior) as well as a couple more friends you've probably met at that party on August 5th.
See some of you tomorrow,
Luke
