To all GCBT members,
I hope you are all well and having a good summer. Anna and I are having a different but great cycling season. We are riding our gravel bikes a lot together and getting some great local rides in with our local riding bubble. I have talked with board members, other GCBT riders and a doctor friend. No one I have talked to thinks we should transition to "normal' GCBT rides. The OCA has sent guidelines for group rides, but the requirements are onerous. We have an older demographic in our club. Many people are in the high risk category for Covid 19. I am turning seventy this summer and include myself in this group. Many of our tour leaders are in the high risk category and I don't want to pressure them into doing something they are uncomfortable with.
We all have differing levels of risk tolerance and I think it is up to individual members to make their own decisions. That means choosing the people they want to ride with and the types of social distancing, mask wearing and other safety practices they want to use. For example we have a tight group of friends here in Fergus that have ridden together for years. We ride and socialize with each other and are confident in each other. This is our comfort zone. Others have made similar decisions. Please respect other peoples' bubbles.
Our full slate of this season's GCBT rides are available with turn by turn navigation on Ride with GPS. We have done the Safari ride and the Wandering Waterloo and recommend them both. Here is a link to all of our rides.
All of Anna and my summer and fall travel plans are cancelled but we have replaced them with some great local travel options. Life seems even more precious and I treasure each moment. I hope to see you on the road. If so let's stop and have a conversation from across the road.
