New issue 1168 by werner.l...@gmail.com: The terms (columns) of Darwin Core
extension "resource relationship" cannot be mapped correctly
https://code.google.com/p/gbif-providertoolkit/issues/detail?id=1168

Dear GBIF-IPT list suscriptores

What steps will reproduce the problem?
======================================
1.
with

1-1
GBIF DWC-A Validator (http://tools.gbif.org/dwca-validator/ ) and annexed
“meta.xml” as shown in the included validation report
“2015-02-04-h0839AM-DwC-SeuNico-GBIF-Darwin Core Archive Validator.pdf ”

or

1-2
GBIF IPT Version 2.1.1-r4640 (http://187.32.44.123/ipt/ ) and annexed
“meta.xml” as shown in the included print screens
“2015-02-04-h0839AM-DwC-SeuNico-IPT-http187.32.44.123-SourceData.pdf” and
“2015-02-04-h0839AM-DwC-SeuNico-IPT-http187.32.44.123-DarwinCoreMappings.pdf”

2.
uploading the related DWC- A and validating it against the dwc text
guidelines xml schema leads to the following result:
A-
Validation successful
B-
Archive read successfully

3.
3-1
The problem: Summery
====================
The terms of the "resource relationship table" cannot be mapped correctly.
The whole resource table is always interpreted as a “one column table”.

3-2
The problem: The suspected source of error:
===========================================
In our case, like all the other DWC-A tables, the relationship-file is a
tab delimited text file.
In the first step, the dwc archive is correctly loaded and interpreted as
tab delimited text (also the columns of the relationship table are
correctly interpreted and recognized)
But in the following mapping step, different form the other DwC-A-tables,
the system (both, validator and ipt) interprets the relationship-table as a
“comma” delimited CSV-file.

3-3
The problem: The work-a-round
==============================
The problem can be avoided by correcting manually the text delimiter (in
our case from comma to tab) by using the IPT interface.

What version of the provider software are you using?
====================================================
GBIF IPT Version 2.1.1-r4640

What browser are you using?
===========================
Firefox, IE, Opera

Please provide any additional information below.
================================================
The manually corrected DwC-A is already published and registered and can be

Comment #1 on issue 1168 by kyle.br...@gmail.com: The terms (columns) of
Darwin Core extension "resource relationship" cannot be mapped correctly
https://code.google.com/p/gbif-providertoolkit/issues/detail?id=1168

Thank you for your detailed issue description. Please be aware that the IPT
is moving to GitHub, and future issues should be entered here:
https://github.com/gbif/ipt/issues

Publishers should preview each data source to ensure it is configured
correctly. If its columns cannot map correctly, this is a cue it needs to
be reconfigured. Therefore, this is more a problem knowing how to properly
operate the tool, and not a problem with the tool itself.

Please note, IPT v2.2 includes a new feature that allows each mapping to be
previewed. It is recommended you upgrade to take advantage of this feature,
plus a suite of other new features as described here:

Comment #2 on issue 1168 by werner.l...@gmail.com: The terms (columns) of

Thanks for your quick answer.

Yes, as reported,
in the case of IPT (http://187.32.44.123/ipt/) it is possible to manually
correct the mapping (by changing the delimiters) when the IPT system, for
an unknown reason, treats the relationship table, unlike other tables in
the compressed DwC-A file.

The bigger problem:
In the case of Darwin Core Archive Validator
(http://tools.gbif.org/dwca-validator/) we do not have this possibility.
People could feel discouraged to use the resource relationship extension
(http://tools.gbif.org/dwca-validator/extension.do?id=dwc:ResourceRelationship).
