The Land Conservation Program is the oldest program at MHYC. Inspired from the tradition of the 1930's Civilian Conservation Corps, the Land Conservation Program provides opportunities for both in-school and out-of-school youth ages 17-24 to participate in a variety of crew-based environmental rehabilitation and habitat restoration projects.
Corpsmembers have the opportunity to earn certifications, including their S212 chainsaw equivalency certificate, first aid/CPR, and pesticide applicator certificate. Each youth is assigned to a crew that works for 10 to 12 weeks on a variety of projects, including trail building and maintenance, fire and flood mitigation and restoration, habitat restoration, tree planting, and the removal of invasive plant species. The land conservation work of MHYC Corpsmembers impacts hundreds of acres of national parks, trails, and community spaces each year in Colorado.
Corpsmembers will earn a bi-weekly living stipend of $640 and will earn an AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,493 at the completion of the program.
