Fuel Tuning is absolutely required when installing an HMF Exhaust on this machine. This exhaust looks and sounds GREAT! A bit louder than stock with the silencer still in but that's exactly what I wanted. I had an exhaust from IXIL before that was pretty cool but too loud.
Only thing that would make it perfect is if I could find a smaller right passenger foot peg, since it doesn't need to go around the muffler anymore!
I have a 95 honda civic ex (manual), and it smokes really bad from the exhaust. It's thick white smoke that lingers, and it also burns oil, but when checking the oil, it is not clouded up or milky or anything. I heard white smoke was coolant burning, and usually when oil burns it's darker, but the person I bought it from said he thinks it has bad piston rings, but I was wondering what anybody else thinks it could be. It also has a bad IACV, and it switches up and down a lot while idling, not sure if that has any effect. I will be doing a compression test soon, along with replacing the piston rings, and head gasket replacement. But I would like to know if there are any other diagnostic tests I can do, or if it could be anything else. Any help or comments appreciated, thanks!
If it's white smoke, you can pretty much be guaranteed it is burning coolant. If you smell it and it has that sweet smell to it, be assured that's what it is. Do the compression test, but I doubt its the rings. Like was said in the comments:
The IAC will have nothing to do with whether it's burning oil/coolant or not, but will need to be replaced or most likely cleaned before you put it back together from the head gasket job. While you are replacing the head gasket, ensure you have the head checked to ensure it isn't warped. Also, coolant can leak into a cylinder and burn without it ever getting to the oil. Oil can also get into the coolant without showing traces of coolant in the oil.
You can check the spark plugs as well. When you are burning coolant, you'll find one (or more) of them will be a lot cleaner than the rest of them. When you find the clean one, you'll know which cylinder is getting the coolant.
I used Mobil XHP 20W50 engine oil for my Honda civic 03 and now my car stated bring out smoke from the exhaust and also consuming more fuel than necessary. Please what could be the problem and possible solutions?
Hello! I recently bought a 97' CR125, its great except the black oil leaking out of where the exhaust meets the cylinder. Ive bought many OEM seals to properly seal the exhaust to stop the leaking but to no avail. When its running it drips black oil out of the where the exhaust and cylinder meet. About 1 "drop" per second. The right side is pretty dry, while the left side of the exhaust cylinder connection basically sprays black oil. So my question is, why is there so much black oil? I understand that its byproduct from the gas / air mixture but why so much? And my second question is how do i fix this? Could the exhaust be bent?
Go leaner on you oil and gas mixture, clean up your pipe and exhaust flange get some high temp rtv sealant, and make a nice seal. Install the pipe, let it dry, then you are done. You might need new crank seals, that causes excessive drool. All fixable..
By leaner MetalAcid is saying if your currently running 32:1 then try 40:1 and look at what jets it has in it, maybe its jetted very large atm ? Myself I stay at 32:1 and jet to suit I just like the extra 1% oil in my mix. I bet if the oil in exhaust is like you say then a quick look at your oil level in the trans might point to a bad right side crank seal pulling trans oil into the motor and coming out the exhaust good luck
Ah ok! Im currently running 40:1, ill have a look at the jetting today. When i last checked the trans oil seemed to be fine, it's leaking out the countershaft seal currently, so im waiting on a new seal. Is there any way that it's a part of the problem?
Na countershaft seal will have nothing to do with your spooge (excessive oil coming from exhaust) when did you last do oil change and how much oil came out at oil change ? I always measure amount of oil that comes out at oil change that way if all of a sudden my oil level has dropped I know the crank seal is on its way out just my way of knowing what going on without pulling cover to check.
Well i think i got about 600ml when i first drained the bike. I filled it up with 650ml of new oil and i havent checked it since. But it will be a little hard to know if the crank seal is gone, because the countershaft seal has also been leaking transmission oil.
Unfortunatly Yes, These bikes were ment to be full bore, full throttle, raced. High screaming rpm's, tearing up the track, and then after the race, the Mechanic in the Box van full of parts and tools, tears the whole bike apart, rebuilds it, and the racer goes and tears it up again. If you had a nice enduro, trail bike, or play bike, you wouldnt need to do so much work on it to keep it running. The 2 stroke engine is a marvel, its simple yet complex, it uses the crank area to burp fuel up to the transfer port to keep it churning and its pressurised. Any leaks, the dry side, alternator, or wet side, the tranny clutch area could cause the engine to run extremely lean, and cause a melt down, or the tranny fluid could wash off the 2 stroke oil off of the working parts and lock the engine up. No good. Do a leak down test, and replace the seals as necessary. I used to do amature racing for fun back in the day, and yeup, I love the 2 stroke racers the best. The good news is, for your bike, you dont have to crack the cases to pull your seals, so its not that bad. Good luck...
When I first got my 125 it had real bad spooge just like the OP has, so one of the first jobs I did on the bike was to change oil as you do when you buy a bike you know nothing about and found it only had about 300mls of oil and thought oh PO must not have kept an eye on things. Did my first oil change put in my 650mls of oil now I only started and ran the bike for .2hr or 12mins on the hour meter and spooging like shit now when I dropped the oil from trans it had lost 200mls of oil so this is why I always measure what comes out at oil change every time since. As it tells you when there is a problem real quick as I change my oil every few hours of run time.
Counter shaft seal surely not leaking massive amount of oil yeah ? and how many hours of ride time since oil change ? It should still be pretty much full man, see if you get your 650mls but replace the seals like said the damn things would be yonks old and shot or close to. Seals and gaskets are cheap and its not a big job to do.
