is anyone else on twitter out there?

I didn't understand or care about twitter at all until I finally tried
it. I actually love it now- although I certainly didn't need to spend
any more time online! although to be fair I do many of my updates via
SMS on my phone...

anyways- if anyone else on there- I am Planetx_123 on there.

p.s. I hate this damn screenname- I've had it since I was 14 and
shouldve gotten rid of it a long time ago...

So are you saying there is no longer a threat to Earth from Planet X?
'Cause it really fucking *sucked* when they unleashed King Ghidorah on
us.

Wow- this is going to be a long answer that you definately didn't ask
for. I had actually forgotten why I chose this name until I read your
comment...so this was a little memory trip that I will go ahead and
write about for no one other than myself :-)

I had not heard the Art Bell theory of "Planet X" crashing into earth
every x years until a few years after I created this user account on
hotmail. I actually created this after a band called Planet X. Long
story short (or actually long story long)...

When I was growing up, I started and quit piano lessons. Then I
decided that I wanted to try drums (like 3rd or 4th grade). I had a
cool drum teacher, but it was apparent that I had no talent at the
drums. So to make up for my lack of talent, I just practiced alot.
Having no talent, I also had no propensity for grooves or funk of any
kind-- I had no "soul". So I just became a more and more technical
drummer-- very fast, lots of legwork, lots of drums, lots of
cymbals.... lots of noise to make up for the fact that I couldn't
create a cool groove, or a funky beat that was 'appropriate' to save
my life. Mr HCI- I believe you are a musician, so maybe you will
understand this or maybe I am just full of shit, and am unique in my
thoughts.

Regardless, all of this is to lead up to my obsession with progressive
rock music when I was 14 - 18 years old. Progressive rock, for those
of you that are not familiar, focuses on writing highly technical
music, lots of virtuosity, etc. Don't confuse my statements about me
above with these real musicians. Rush, Dream Theater, etc. I do
believe have some of the greatest musicians in the world, but I 100%
understand that this is a different kind of greatness than what makes
Stevie Wonder or Herbie Hancock great. So when I was 15, Dream
Theater was having a bit of trouble and fired keyboardist Derek
Sherinian to hire god keyboard player, Jordan Rudess. (BTW- I
remember chatting with Derek Sherinian on AIM. Im sure he thought I
was some stupid kid, but I was just amazed he answered me!! I
remember asking him some stupid question like "how do you remember all
those time signitures!?" very funny, I was a dumb kid). When they
fired Derek Sherinian, he formed the band Planet X. I really liked
Planet X because the drummer was Virgil Donati... whose feet moved
with the same articulation and speed as his hands. The man practices
the standard rudiments that are typically done with you hands...with
his double bass pedal. He truly is amazing.

I since have broadened my music listening habits to many more genres,
and I appreciate the many different beautiful and amazing things about
alot of music--I definately think that there is much more to great
music then just the almost masturbatory virtuosity in some prog rock.
Its definately amazing and an accomplishment and mind numbing, but
there is more to greatness than this I think (harder to grasp,
quanitfy, and explain as well).

So much later when I heard about the Planet X space theory, I realized
that this must be why they called the band that and realized that my
screen name was actually much dorkier than I intended! I meant for it
to be an obscure, cool band reference...and instead it was a space
death scenario reference... epic fail.

Hows that for a long story long... :-)

I'm ChelseaNoob, same as my blog.

I like twitter cause it gives me something to pretend to be doing when
I think someone's checking me out at a bar. The location aware
clients on the iPhone are pretty awesome.
