I have two threads I would like to start- here is the first.

It is 5:03AM here outside of Nashville, where I am in my hotel room
typing this and wondering why I am trying to write this when I clearly
should be sleeping :-\ In my "free time", I do consulting/IT work for
a movie theatre chain. I used to work full time, and since my leaving
over two years ago I guess they haven't found anyone to fill my
position (which makes me feel good!). So I still help them out from
time to time, and in return I receive a menial pittance, and free
movies for me and my friends (main reason)...oh and free cell phone
service.

Today we opened a new theatre, and as all new business openings,
theatre openings are crazy. Things always go wrong, especially with
computers, and today was no exception. Even with all of these
problems, I *love* theatre openings. Theatres are like churches to
me, because I love film, and love the whole industry. Also- movie
theatres are full of gay employees who are all especially cute. There
is one here who is just really cute, and he met his boyfriend when he
got off at 11pm to go watch the midnight Twilight movie together...it
was really cute- I was envious! Tonight we only had the midnight
Twilight, which didn't bring too many -- only because we were new.

On to the point... I am curious to hear about your longest "work" day
ever. This includes school (for a project or test) or in work. I
think mine is one day when I was a manager and Spy Kids 2 came out.
We decorated for it, and over the whole thing I worked 26 hours
straight. So my longest day ever is 26... what about you guys?

I have another thread that is more apt to the group, but am thinking
alot of how tired I am and am curious about others... I hope this is
ok to post- I guess AJ can remove it if its bad.

Much Love,
Steve

the club closed and I didnt get home till close till 4.

it fucking sucked... I had been up since like 5am getting some last
minute studying in.

thanks for posting buddy... it will take some time, but i think this
could take off..

Would an interview count? Here's the short version.

I had an interview in NY. I arrived the day before, had the interview
in the morning, and then had to leave before the tour because it was
snowing kind of heavily (not really by my standards). I get to
LaGuardia Airport only to find my flight canceled. I managed to get
to a later flight, but that flight was delayed by over 1.5 hours. I
get to Minneapolis, MN for my connecting flight but it was already
12:30am-ish, so we all missed our connecting flight. I had tried to
sleep a bit on the way to Minneapolis, but it was difficult due to a
crying kid (always with the crying kids).

I decided to just sleep in the airport as my flight home was at 7am or
so. I got maybe 4 hours of discontinuous sleep - I kept thinking
someone would steal my stuff as I slept on my backpack and suitcase.
The flight home that morning had engine problems or something, so we
had to get off the plane after 30 minutes or so. We were transferred
to another plane and leave the airport at about 8:30am. I get back,
drop my stuff at my apartment, and run to the library where I studied
with a friend until 5pm or so.

Then I went to take my final. I couldn't really read the words on my
essay final (I think they started to move) . . . but I got an A, so
whatever. And this is why I avoid all-nighters like the plague.

Other than that, long days (9am until 3am) are typical when I have to
go in to research AND have 2-3 exams in a 2-day period. Sigh, science
waits for no one sometimes.

Wow that sounds awful. I hate flying and airports for the most part.
Its just so much waiting and uncomfortable and there are always
delays.

I think I've pretty much got you all beaten in this category LOL, if
this counts.

For several years, I was very involved in a major event in the big
city. We would basically start with an empty location, and build an
entire event from the ground up. I was virtually running/planning/
organizing/coordinating/overseeing and making the event happen. I was
also in charged of supervising security for the event, so I was
usually the first one on-site, last one to leave.

I would actually take a hotel room in the city, someplace near the
location which was in the downtown part of the city (an
extraordinarily overpriced hotel room, unfortunately) from Thursday
nite until Monday nite, so that I did not have to drive over the
course of the weekend. We would have office "trailers" (mobile office
units) that were set up with bare minimum of comforts. Being the big
queen that I am, I would even bring my own refrigerator!!! Thankfully,
as this was middle of summer, the office trailers were air-conditioned
for cool sweet relief.

"Load-In" would start on a Thursday morning, and we would pretty much
work non-stop every day until Sunday, the day of the main event,
followed by cleanup/load-out until Monday evening.

I would usually arrive on the location at 6am Thursday, leave sometime
around midnite, return 6am, etc, and continue that schedule until
Sunday. Sunday was when I would arrive 6am, not leave until around 4am
Monday, at which point I would officially announce " I AM SO DONE WITH
THIS EVENT I AM GONE GONE GONE" (and then go to my hotel room, shower
and go clubbing at an "after-hours" until sometime Monday evening,
when I would swing by to make sure everything was gone) and then go
home and pass out and take the entire rest of that week to recover and
recuperate.

So, that would come to something like 80 hours in 4 days, including
the main event which was basically a 24 hour day, followed by another
12 or so hours of clubbing. CRAZY. I know.

I guess I don't win a prize or anything LOL.

PS: I actually LOVED working this event. I was NOT EVEN GETTING PAID
for working it. It was a VOLUNTEER position.

(Although they did graciously pay for my hotel room some years at
least).

LOL
